GLWA Statement on Water Quality & Environmental Working Group Tap Water Quality Database
February 3, 2022
“The Great Lakes Water Authority (GLWA) is committed to providing its member communities with water of exceptional quality and is proud to either meet or exceed all federal and state drinking water requirements.
As new treatment techniques become available, the Authority will consider them as we continue to upgrade and invest in the regional system.
In addition to future investments, the Authority is also a proud participant of the Partnership for Safe Water, a program developed to guide water systems toward improving water quality by optimizing system operations. The Authority elected to participate in this program nearly a decade ago, and it has pushed us to go above and beyond regulatory standards.
The drinking water treatment process is a complex science and can vary greatly from state to state depending on source water. This is why we follow federal guidelines, which are formed with the diverse input of communities, clinicians, allied health professionals, environmental advocates, and other engaged stakeholders. It is these federal guidelines that help ensure that all Americans are receiving clean, safe water. As a matter of fact, thanks to the dedicated chemists and water quality professionals employed by the Authority, our water often exceeds quality guidelines put in place by the EPA, ensuring that if new, more stringent guidelines were to be put in place, the Authority would be positioned to meet them.
GLWA will continue to monitor emerging contaminates with vigilance and stay at the forefront of innovative new treatment technology to ensure that our member communities will always have safe, reliable, quality drinking water.”
