GLWA, RCOC announce significant infrastructure improvements in area of Avon Road between Dequindre and 23 Mile roads over next two years
The Great Lakes Water Authority (GLWA) and the Road Commission for Oakland County (RCOC) today announced a series of coordinated infrastructure improvements that will be made over the next two years in the area of the Avon Road corridor between Dequindre Road and 23 Mile Road on the Rochester Hills/Shelby Township border.
The announcement was made at a joint GLWA/RCOC press conference today (Wednesday, Oct. 20) at Yates Park, 1991 East Avon Road, Rochester Hills (across from Yates Cider Mill).
The projects will be constructed over two years, beginning Nov. 1, 2021, and include installation of a 96-inch water transmission main, a bridge removal/replacement, construction of two roundabouts and pedestrian safety upgrades. Work will be completed in two phases with project completion expected in 2023.
Oakland County Executive David Coulter, Macomb County Executive Mark Hackel and Rochester Hills Mayor Bryan Barnett participated in the announcement as well. Speaking on behalf of GLWA was Chief Operating Officer-Water and Field Services Cheryl Porter and Jason Matteo of GLWA’s engineering consultant Jacobs. Speaking on behalf of RCOC was RCOC Board Chair Andrea LaLonde and RCOC Director of Engineering Sam Fitzer.
