GLWA 14 Mile/Drake Main Break Update 11/16/21: Water main repair work underway – communities no longer have boil water advisories in effect as work continues

“GLWA Field Service Crews and contractors continue to work diligently to accomplish the repair of the 48-inch water transmission main that broke in the area of 14 Mile and Drake on October 31. As of November 16, crews have implemented a solution to fully isolate the valves on the broken pipe and have successfully dewatered the site and begun initial steps in the repair. Concurrent with this repair, GLWA is undertaking a proactive physical inspection of the length of transmission main that is now isolated for the repair to check its overall condition while it is available. Results of this inspection will determine the exact timeframe for returning the main back to full service. We expect to be able to provide further updates on December 1st.

Throughout this process, impacted communities will continue to have water flow. However, it will continue to be at the lower level they have been experiencing since the main broke.

Please note: On November 3, the boil water advisories were lifted in Commerce Township, Novi and Walled Lake, following the clear results for both rounds of water quality testing. No communities impacted by the main break are currently under boil water advisories.

GLWA will conduct a full analysis to determine the cause and any further assessments needed once all work is complete.”
